The Honourable Troy Grant has built a phenomenal 30 year career of distinguished, decorated and accomplished public service to the people of New South Wales in Government, Law Enforcement, Emergency Services, Social Justice, sport, community & charitable endeavours.
Troy is dedicated to the ethos of service before self, based on his core values of hard work, integrity and honesty. He has been decorated twice for courage and received National medals and community awards for his service. He held the role as the 17th Deputy Premier of New South Wales and Ministries in Trade, Major Events & Tourism, Policing and Emergency Management. He secured over 2 billion dollars in funding for community infrastructure and projects in his electorate described as a ‘Golden age of investment.’ for his region.
A keen sports and racing fan and proud Novocastrian, Rugby League has been a big part of Troy’s entire life with his great grandfather Francis Kennedy Swan a premiership winner for Maitland Districts in the formative days of Rugby League in Australia in 1912. He died after being injured on the field in 1913. Troy started as a ballboy for his local Country Rugby League Group 4 team the Kootingal-Moonbi Roosters. He played Shield schoolboy rugby league during the week and represented his school in the local Tamworth juniors competition on weekends. He made his 1st grade debut for his local team the Roosters at 18.
After suffering multiple knee injuries that stopped his playing career, Troy turned to coaching juniors and refereeing across Country NSW in Groups 11, 14, 19 and the QRL Border League. He established administered and refereed a rugby league competition in 2000 the Barwon Darling League for NSW’s most isolated and predominantly Indigenous communities. The competition from that base continues some 20 years later. He has been an admired and strong supporter and advocate of Rugby League in New South Wales and particularly Country rugby league during his professional career.
Troy is now the Managing Director of Perspective Advisory Services Pty Ltd, Australia’s Commonwealth Inspector-General Water Compliance, and Professor of Practice (Public Administration) University of Newcastle, Chairman of Racing NSW’s Integrity Assurance Committee and dedicated to contributing to Rugby League’s International footprint, growth and sustainability supporting those both at the grassroots, voluntary and elite levels of the Greatest Game of All.
