The Libya Rugby League Association, was formed on 1 July 2019 in Tripoli, the capital city. The entity was formed within the commission of Civil Societies.

The history of the sport in Libya, however, began in 2017, when a local, Abdul Karim, who introduced rugby league to his compatriots. Abdul and his colleagues slowly built up a presence following consultation with the RLEF applied for official recognition, which was granted when they became an RLEF observer in December 2019.
